Stitching a Ladder to Climb

Ladder Stitch I Recycled Sari Silk 3 February 2016January 2016 was not a good month. In some ways. I’ve been sick. We’re having new carpets fitted (an enormous upheaval ). I’m working surrounded by chaos. Continue reading

Encaustic in Progress

Still inching along my Plaster of Paris encaustic Pavillon Chinois images.  Here’s a section from one of the images I’ve been working on today. I printed the image onto TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) then ironed that onto acid-free tissue paper … Continue reading

Forces and Energies at Work on my Worktable: (Subtitle: At Last – A Breakthrough)

4×4 Canvasses – EncausticisedThe image here is of six, out of a suite of twelve, 4″ square deep canvasses, to which I’ve added a top layer of plaster cloth (Mod Roc). I’ve then added layers of clear encaustic medium and to some, yellow ochre and indian red oil paints (wiped on then wiped off) white encaustic medium and soy bean wax, blending and fusing the layers as I’ve gone, with a hot gun. Arthouse Coop Sketchbook Tour 2015: An Accidental Technique

With the deadline in 4 days to get this off to New York, I’m as usual, going to be working right up to the line. I must have a thing for dangerous edges. No wonder I fall off cliffs. Here’s a couple of pages that I put together just for the purpose of printing off and cutting up for inclusion into my little mystery. They aren’t meant to be interesting in themselves, but well … Continue reading

Friday Fictioneers 100 Word Flash Fiction Challenge: The Beyond

The Beyond

These circular kitchens were scattered throughout the vast wood. Each had stone chimney, oven, well. Doors descended to a stone honeycomb – each settlement’s quarters. We cooked, kept warm, socialised. For food, we hunted to the wood’s perimeters – an encircling fence, beyond which was further woodland – but it was accepted that we never crossed over. A Winter Hexagon

One of my preoccupations these days – hexagons. This eco print hexagon made me think constellation.

I researched hexagonal constellation and came up with a Winter Hexagon of six stars, Capella, Aldebaran, Rigel, Sirius, Procyon and Pollux.

Capella is a star in the Auriga constellation. Aldebaran is a giant orange star in the constellation of Taurus. Rigel is in the Orion constellation. Sirius is a star system. Procyon is in the Canis Minor constellation. Pollux is in the Gemini constellation and is a giant orange star. Continue reading

New Artwork: ‘Chapter’ (and mapping satan with the aid of a couple of Cezanne’s card players)

I’ve just finished this mixed media collage encaustic. It’s called Chapter.

There’s more than one meaning to the word chapter. The work has risen from a musing and a fusing of two. Continue reading

New Works In Progress

Landscape of Landscapes is the first of a series of mixed media encaustics I’m working on – still part of my Below the Line project.

It’s small, but includes a good number of mixed media techniques, including digital imagery, an altered (bleached) photo of a landscape, and the bottom bit (green) came about when I found my hands doing something entirely unexpected.

It has led me into new territory.
