Encaustic in Progress

Still inching along my Plaster of Paris encaustic Pavillon Chinois images.  Here’s a section from one of the images I’ve been working on today. I printed the image onto TAP (Transfer Artist Paper) then ironed that onto acid-free tissue paper … Continue reading

Inch of the Day 5 October 2015: An Inch of Work on my Plaster of Paris Encaustic Accordion Book

Today I finished the surfaces of all eight sides of my Plaster of Paris and Encaustic Accordion Book, as per Bridgette Guerzon Mills‘ instructions in Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch’s book Encaustic Revelation: Cutting Edge Techniques from the Masters of Encausticamp. I had … Continue reading

Inch of the Day 4 September 2015: Blueprints

The blueprint has long (about 30 years) been a preoccupation. Blueprints come about by (tight) physical contact and (light) sensitivity. Tight and Light. Force and energy. Consider this: blueprint as template. And prototype (primitive form). Big Bang Theory. Without wishing to alienate Creationists, (Creationism is as valid a theory of the origins of life as any other, in the face of proof to the otherwise) Big Bang Theory is about the explosion of (forces and energies) on matter. In this scenario, the matter exploded had to be created. Unless one adopts the idea of a kind of mobius strip universe, where everything has always existed, on a loop that has never had beginning or end. But then, who or what is behind the mobius strip? I’m open to dialogue in all this. Continue reading

Inch of the Day 29 August 2015: Ripples

Encaustic and acrylic paint on paper. Arrows. An arrow is a symbol for a force. The direction of a force. Not a sign. A ripple would be the sign of a force. A ripple might form the shape of an arrow, of course. Continue reading

Forces and Energies at Work on my Worktable: (Subtitle: At Last – A Breakthrough)

4×4 Canvasses – EncausticisedThe image here is of six, out of a suite of twelve, 4″ square deep canvasses, to which I’ve added a top layer of plaster cloth (Mod Roc). I’ve then added layers of clear encaustic medium and to some, yellow ochre and indian red oil paints (wiped on then wiped off) white encaustic medium and soy bean wax, blending and fusing the layers as I’ve gone, with a hot gun. Continue reading

Arthouse Coop Sketchbook Tour 2015 – Done, Polished, Posted

Some of the pages were polished – those to which I added beeswax or encaustic wax. The sketchbook was a progression of my artistic exploration Below the Line, a phrase from Deepak Chopra’s book Quantum Healing. I dismantled the sketchbook … Continue reading

A New Year: No Timetable

I’ve been somewhat quiet on the blog over Christmas and New Year. That doesn’t mean I’ve been doing nothing. On the contrary. I spent the Christmas period looking at art. I looked and looked. I must have looked at hundreds even thousands of images, of all media. This was mainly through Pinterest. I met some new people, made fine new artistic connections. It was awe-inspiring, all the creativity going on, and to be able to link up with creative folks everywhere. Continue reading

New Artwork: ‘Chapter’ (and mapping satan with the aid of a couple of Cezanne’s card players)

I’ve just finished this mixed media collage encaustic. It’s called Chapter.

There’s more than one meaning to the word chapter. The work has risen from a musing and a fusing of two. Continue reading

New Works In Progress

Landscape of Landscapes is the first of a series of mixed media encaustics I’m working on – still part of my Below the Line project.

It’s small, but includes a good number of mixed media techniques, including digital imagery, an altered (bleached) photo of a landscape, and the bottom bit (green) came about when I found my hands doing something entirely unexpected.

It has led me into new territory.
