Site V
I’ve been beavering away most of this week at a new web site for showcasing my artworks. I hope you’ll visit Ann Isik: Artworks and especially, I’d appreciate your feedback. I’m still tweaking it but I decided this afternoon I’d enough content (that’s techie-speak)to go live (more techie–speak) with it and the content will change as I swap and switch the art.
I’ve been trying to find the time for a while to set up a site again, but the idea of designing a web site was daunting. Or at least I thought so. Then an email popped through my virtual letterbox urging me to build a web site using Wix.
Build a web site free! No technical knowledge necessary! I’ve heard those claims before, somewhere and sometime just before I wasted a lot of time, tore most of my hair out and wept copious tears into my empty wallet.
Wix has proved to be easy-peasy yet without being naffy-waffy. And I’ve not yet plumbed its depths. Of course, I’m not an absolute beginner, but I’m impressed with its help sections.
You know what Wix reminds me of? Microsoft’s Front Page. Remember Front Page? It was my first WYSIWIG experience and I loved it, despite having to enlist the help of a copy of The Idiot’s Guide to Front Page for Dummies Made Simple (or something like that). And after all that, MS decided to discontinue support.
Front Page came along nearly 20 years ago, just as the first digital hand-held mobile phones came along. Wix has lots of app add-ons. And in general, there are many more design choices. It’s almost a flaw. Give someone endless freedom and they freeze up. So I chose to limit myself and stay chilled. I think that’s an oxymoron.
I don’t suppose Wix will appreciate me comparing their WYSIWIGs with MS Front Page.
Very encouraging that you have set up a website. It’ll be lovely to see your projects all together. Thanks for the idea that of using Wix – I may have a go myself one day!

I’d love to see your work on a web site, Sally. Wix is very user-friendly. One tip: save every change you make as soon as you make it. If you do an hour’s editing and your browser crashes (Firefox is continually crashing on me) you lose a lot of your work, though Wix does do periodic automatic ‘saves’ as you work. I don’t know how often, but I guess that can be changed. I haven’t gotten round to checking that. 🙂

Haha! They might not! Glad it’s coming along well for you.

I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten what the ‘they’ are that you’re referring to. Nice to hear from you, though. I must set some time aside to ‘visit’ with my online friends. 🙂
