Town to commemorate WW1 centenary tomorrow

A commemoration of the centenary of the First World War, organised by the Royal British Legion and our town council, will take place tomorrow.

The event will take place on the Town Hall steps at 10.30am, and will mark both the centenary of the war – which started on 4 August 1914 – and the many men from Chipping Norton who died during the war.

There will be prayers, stories and accounts of some of the men who died in the war. Actor Robert Hardy will read a Wilfred Owen poem, and there will be music from the Chipping Norton Brass Band and the Rhythm of Life Choir.

The Town Hall will also have a WW1 art exhibition with work by Chipping Norton School students. Visitors can vote for their favourite piece, and the winning art will feature in a plaque that will be commissioned to…
