Every Friday from around the world writers gather at the virtual fireside of WordPress blogger Rochelle Wisoff to share flash fiction stories of 100 words, all inspired by a common photograph, and exchange constructive criticism. Readers’ comments are also welcome. This week’s photo is courtesy of Randy Mazie.
I’m coming in late this week – here’s the story Randy’s photo inspired:
The White Feather
“They must’ve sealed the place off without checking …!”
“Time’s money to big companies, Mike,” he replied, draping the white stole around his neck.
“…bodies are mummified.”
He patted the back of my hand. “You did right to call me. SOC squad on its way?”
I nodded. “You’ve got about 5 minutes.” I took off my helmet. “At least he didn’t die alone.”
Father Azrael commenced the sacrament. Half way through, the cat crumbled away from the cadaver’s embrace. Revealed, between them, was a white feather, about the length of a man’s leg.
“Nobody dies alone, Mikey.”
