What Am I Singing Today?

Blute nur, du liebes Herz! from the St Matthew Passion by J S Bach
Written in 1727, the St Matthew Passion is an oratorio setting Chapters 26 & 27 of the Gospel according to Matthew to music. In this aria, the Virgin is beseeching God to spare Jesus from his approaching death on the cross. Moving stuff. Fabulous song. Fabulous rendition by Texan soprano Helen Donath.
