This is my first attempt at encaustic mixed media. It’s a small watercolour board (5″ x 7″/13cm x 18cm).
I used shellac, encaustic wax, alcohol inks and photo collages.

I recently have started encaustics and love how they are so freeing compared to the detailed paintings I make. This is a lovely first encaustic.

Thank you! I’ll check out your work. I’m interested in encaustics for various reasons. Transparency is one. So is occlusion. Encaustics can do both.

Well, it was a first experiment but I’m quite excited at the possibilities with encaustic. I am working my way through all your 2012 studio artists. Your artist residency idea was a success. Will you be doing one in 2013?
